Advanced School

Presented by the Adelaide University’s School of Education team in partnership with Iwiri Aboriginal Corporation.

The 2026 Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Language and Culture Advanced class will be held online 13 – 15 July 2026.

The PYLC Advanced Class will benefit people who have experience working with Anangu communities and languages and have a basic understanding of Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara and a working vocabulary. People completing the Advanced Class will have a framework for engaging in translation work using reasonably complex language texts.

Over the duration of the class, students will engage a range of texts, revisit grammar features and translation principles, and will strengthen skills in speaking and reading for clear communication with Anangu.

Course Coordinator Associate Professor Sam Osborne will collaborate with an Anangu language and cultural experts to deliver the course. The teaching team will work with students to build confidence in engaging with complex language texts and more in-depth discussions about the cultural context than our AU introductory courses.

By the end of the course the students will:

> Strengthen speaking and reading fluency

> Build confidence in approaching translation work

> Revise the grammatical foundations of the language through a range of texts

> Construct complex written texts

This course is not available for credit but a certificate of completion will be presented.
